Just another day of cruising
There are just some random days when you wake up feeling energized but without the idea where to channel that energy. It’s usually a problem especially if the kind of work you are doing feels forced or it’s not ideally what you enjoy doing. The education system we have has brainwashed most of us into believing that we study or simply go to school and get certificates to eventually be employed by other people. Time and time again some of our wise poets and writers have done their best to get us off this mentality but most of us have stayed true to the myths that it indeed takes a bazooka to change an African from what they already know.
Building talents has been one of the things that the Kenyan government has been unsupportive of but with the implementation of the new CBC system there is hope of reviewing the whole education system for a better future for our children. For instance, if you are a talented writer from a very young age you are not accorded ample opportunities to showcase your ability because contests are not encouraged frequently in schools and when such is proposed on national level the winners are not awarded on merit. However, there is a glimpse of hope for restoration when we listen to some stories like of companies like Guinness which awarded the young lad who designed their current logo on merit. Others too like EABL who give their contracts of advertisement on merit and not depending on how long the company has been in the market. Normally they select a few advertisement companies and invite them for presentation of their work and they choose one or two companies out the may be like five present depending on the most deserving per their performance. With instances like these we can say there is light at the end of the tunnel although it might take a long time to effect or instill this kind of a culture. Change is not always welcomed by most people because it makes them uncomfortable. Just look at the opposition the new CBC faced at first before the people began to evaluate it and see the merits thereof besides the hassle it came with especially that of involving parents and of course the cost of the materials the pupils are required to use for the practical learning they are doing.
While reflecting on everything, you’ll discover the main problem we have is the leadership because there is no way we are going to bring the change we desire to see with so much opposition from the very government that runs almost all the resources, In this case its detrimental to push for further support on such matters considering that even the very basic things are being taxed. It feels like this new government put every citizen on a type of a financial rollercoaster heading them backwards the way they had all come up on speed that’s unmanageable.
Oh and now thinking of my own current situation I just need a bottle of whiskey to be passed by the campfire and try to catch a good time for a whole night amidst all these troubles. There’s crying and anguish in every lay man’s homestead and if that be the case for them, what about in the dwelling places of those who are below average? No wonder sons of belial like Mackenzie and their counterparts have such a big following which is desperately seeking solutions for their already unbearable lives and believing damnable heresies told by these cunning extortionists seems a lot easier than the actual struggle they have to overcome every day in order to put food on their tables. Now, we can write lamentation articles all day and air all our strong points regarding the matters and what we think should be done but until we get a leader at the forefront who is fearless to face out all these who are currently seated on the most nobles seats with the intent of defrauding the poor and making themselves rich, heaping up to themselves resources that ought to be the very basic amenities for the people, we’ll just be having a lot of good work written and archived but as much as the voice is a cry for justice it won’t be heard and executed for us to experience the change we are yearning for so desperately beyond expressions. I like to compare the current affairs with what the book of wisdom has portrayed how the different times in history happened. Of a truth, there is nothing happening now that has never been experienced in the world before. Every phenomenon in the world whether good or evil is usually a recurrence of another similar one in the past. In the era of King Ahab there had not been experienced such wickedness and famine simultaneously but looking at the way things are now, it is characterized by the same features as what transpired then. So we are back at that phase of the ongoing sequence in our generation and honestly it has not been this tough before for every person for some years. And the heavens have never withheld the rains this long such that there are endless missed harvests that even the farmers are forced by the situation to buy food because their lands cannot yield enough to sustain them over to the next season. This has led to a hiking of food prices to highs that have never been experienced before. Imagine a 2kgs bag of maize meal costing over 2 dollars? This is unheard of. If our ancestors would be reincarnated today they all would commit suicide and go back to their forever sleeping peaceful world but one thing I’m sure about is that they’d leave having cursed every rogue leader we have in our parliament today. There’s nothing that would be more agonizing to watch than what they really worked hard for, were jailed for, were buffeted for, and went hiding in caves for years to salvage being squandered and wasted leaving no future for even their innocent unborn. Imagine if Koigi wa Wamwere would arise from the dead today? Or people like Jaramogi Odinga? Or the Mzee Jomo himself? The Mzee especially being a mighty and a relentless man of war he always was would not hesitate to mobilize the young men to the forests and the parched places to retrain them how to take down these scalawags with machetes mercilessly. It’s so sad to see the selfless devotion of our ancient leaders who suffered so much to build up foundations that would sustain so many generations being trampled down and destroyed in just 5 years being aided by the very people who know the pain it caused
